Football has an extraordinary ability to unite people, inspire generations and create stories that live beyond the final whistle. In Tanzania, few institutions embody that spirit more than Simba Sports Club. With millions of supporters across Tanzania and Africa, Simba is more than a football club—it is a symbol of passion, pride and national identity.
On 1 August 2026, Simba Sports Club made history by becoming the first football club in the world to unveil its new season jersey inside the Ngorongoro Crater—a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world's most iconic natural wonders. By selecting this extraordinary landscape instead of a traditional stadium or arena, Simba transformed the unveiling of its 2026/27 jersey into a global celebration of football, conservation, tourism and national pride. The historic occasion also marked the official launch of Simba Week, demonstrating how football can become a powerful platform for promoting Tanzania's tourism and conservation heritage.
The event was inspired by one simple but powerful idea—Karibu Nyumbani (Welcome Home).
The lion has always been the identity of Simba Sports Club. It represents courage, strength, unity and leadership. At the same time, the Ngorongoro Crater is home to one of the world's highest concentrations of lions, making it one of the true kingdoms of the Pride.
This symbolic connection gave birth to the campaign theme:
The Pride Returns Home.
For the first time, the roar that has echoed through football stadiums across Tanzania met the roar that has echoed across the Ngorongoro Crater for generations. It was a reminder that football can tell stories that extend far beyond the game itself.
The event was not only about unveiling a new jersey; it was about celebrating identity, reconnecting with our roots and inviting every Simba supporter to rediscover one of Tanzania's greatest treasures.

Built around the campaign Karibu Nyumbani – The Pride Returns Home, the initiative positioned Ngorongoro as more than a safari destination. It told the story of the Home of Humanity, the Home of Lions, and the Home of Wonders, creating a powerful emotional connection between football fans and Tanzania's natural and cultural heritage.
Through Simba's journey across Ngorongoro, audiences were introduced to the destination's remarkable attractions. Beyond the famous Ngorongoro Crater, the campaign showcased Olduvai Gorge, where discoveries reshaped our understanding of human origins; Laetoli, home to the world's oldest preserved human footprints; the spectacular Empakaai Crater; the wildlife-rich plains of Ndutu; the mysterious Shifting Sands; the breathtaking landscapes; and the rich living culture of the Maasai community. Each attraction became part of a larger story that invited visitors to discover the many wonders of Ngorongoro.
The campaign was supported by a comprehensive destination marketing programme that included cinematic promotional films, the "Safari ya Simba Kurudi Nyumbani" countdown series, digital storytelling, social media campaigns, fan tourism packages and extensive television coverage. By leveraging Simba Sports Club's enormous fan base and digital influence, together with the broadcasting reach of Azam Media, Destination Ngorongoro was presented to millions of people across Tanzania and Africa through a compelling and authentic narrative.
For Destination Ngorongoro, the partnership delivered significant strategic value. It strengthened the Destination Ngorongoro brand, expanded media visibility, promoted domestic tourism, showcased tourism products beyond the Crater and reinforced conservation messages through innovative storytelling. At the same time, it created high-quality digital content and promotional assets that would continue promoting Ngorongoro long after the event had concluded.
More importantly, the campaign established a new model for sports tourism and destination branding in Tanzania. It demonstrated that football could be more than entertainment—it could become a powerful vehicle for promoting conservation, celebrating heritage, inspiring travel and strengthening national identity.
Karibu Nyumbani – The Pride Returns Home was therefore more than a campaign. It became a national movement that connected Tanzania's most influential football club with one of the world's greatest natural and heritage destinations. It reminded us that every great journey begins with a first step, every Pride has a home, and some of the most memorable journeys are not about discovering somewhere new—but about returning to where we truly belong.
