A Night of Big Wins for Tanzania Tourism

Tanzania has once again demonstrated why it stands among Africa’s leading tourism destinations, collecting some of the biggest honours at the World Travel Awards Africa Gala Ceremony 2026, held in Zanzibar on 28 August 2026.

Hosted at Diamonds Bijoux Zanzibar, the prestigious ceremony brought together tourism and hospitality leaders from across Africa to celebrate excellence, innovation, and outstanding achievements across the travel industry.

For Tanzania, it was more than an awards night. It was a celebration of the country’s extraordinary diversity—from the endless plains of the Serengeti and the summit of Kilimanjaro to the beaches of Zanzibar and the gateways welcoming travelers into the country.

Tanzania Crowned Africa’s Leading Destination 2026

One of the biggest honours of the evening went to Tanzania itself, which was named Africa’s Leading Destination 2026.

The recognition reflects the remarkable variety Tanzania offers travelers. Few destinations allow visitors to witness some of Africa’s greatest wildlife spectacles, climb its highest mountain, experience rich living cultures, explore extraordinary natural landscapes, and relax beside the Indian Ocean—all within one country.

Tanzania also took the title of Africa’s Leading Tourist Board 2026, further highlighting the country’s growing presence and competitiveness on the African tourism stage.

Serengeti Wins Two Major African Titles

The legendary Serengeti National Park emerged as one of Tanzania’s biggest winners of the evening.

The double recognition reinforces Serengeti’s position as one of Africa’s great wildlife destinations.

Kilimanjaro Reaches the Top Again

Tanzania’s natural attractions were further celebrated when Kilimanjaro National Park was named Africa’s Leading Mountain National Park 2026.

Home to Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, the destination attracts adventurers from around the world seeking the unforgettable experience of reaching the Roof of Africa.

Hosting one of Africa’s most important tourism award ceremonies also placed Zanzibar at the center of the continent’s travel industry for the evening.

Tanzania’s success extended beyond destinations and attractions.

Julius Nyerere International Airport was named Africa’s Leading Airport 2026, adding another significant recognition to Tanzania’s performance at the awards.
